Claim: the outer shells (perimeter columns) of the WTC towers were self-supporting (without the lateral bracing of the floors)

Back in March, I had a bit of an a-ha moment when we were discussing the Hoffman challenge. I suddenly realized that @Mick West (and others) believe that the exterior columns relied on the floors for lateral bracing in order to remain standing. On this view, if you remove the floors by any means the whole edifice collapses.

The outer walls were essentially just four 200 ft x 1400 ft meshes of steel and glass joined at the corners. Without bracing they would collapse. (Mick West)
